Get to Know Coffee Certifications at RhoadsRoast Coffees

Many of our customers at RhoadsRoast Coffees & Importers have their favorite coffees for everyday enjoyment while still caring for the environment, sustainable farming, and ensuring a quality of life for our farmers, their families, and their employees. Family is a critical part of our life and business, and we make sure that we import and support those coffee farming communities worldwide where we can help make an impact in their lives for the future.

Please allow me tell you something about coffee certifications and why these are important for every coffee lover to know about their favorite coffee cuppings.

USDA ORGANIC CERTIFIED:

The USDA Organic Certification on our products regulates organic agricultural practices by ensuring the preservation or enhancement of water and soil quality; wetlands, woodlands and wildlife conservation; and preventing the use of synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering. USDA Organic coffee averages a $.02456 per pound increase in market price for coffee producers; this pricing is controlled by the origin country.

FAIR TRADE CERTIFIED:

The Fair Trade Certification seeks to increase welfare for small farming families and communities by safeguarding ethical trade practices at every stage in the supply chain. A Fair Trade Certification guarantees a minimum market price for all Fair Trade coffee plus up to a $0.29 premium per pound. All Fair Trade premiums are designated for social, economic and environmental development projects that are democratically and fairly selected by each community based upon greatest need.

RAIN FOREST ALLIANCE CERTIFIED (RFA):

The Rain Forest Alliance Certified seal ensures that our coffee is regularly audited to meet strict standards of social, environmental, and economic sustainability. These standards seek to promote and continuously improve biodiversity, natural resource conservation, effective planning and farm management systems, and to improve agriculture livelihood as well as the farming community.

Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center (SMBC):

The Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center is dedicated to understanding, conserving and championing the grand phenomenon of bird migration. Founded in 1991 and located at the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, D.C., SMBC scientists seek to clarify why migratory bird populations are declining before the situation becomes desperate. Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center programs help raise awareness about migratory birds and the need to protect diverse habitats across the Western Hemisphere. Market pricing varies plus up to an additional $0.15 premium per pound.
