The Mondul Estate is part of the Burka Estate which is one of Tanzania’s oldest and largest specialty coffee producers and is located in Northern Tanzania. Burka was established in 1899 by a German settler, Mr. Rahn, and shortly thereafter the first coffee trees were planted. When German East African colonial status ended after World War I, the estate was declared “Enemy Property” and it became part of the new British Protectorate in Tanganyika. In 1929, a group of Swiss investors bought the farm; their ownership has continued to the present through independence from Great Britain and the merging of Tanganyika and Zanzibar into present day Tanzania. The company employs approximately 200 permanent staff with an additional 500 daily staff during the harvest season. Permanent staff and their families are provided with housing on the estates, medical services, and schooling for their children. The company pays at least 20% above the minimum wage. Burka Coffee Estates produces shade grown Arabica coffee using an eco-friendly and responsible approach to the environment and its neighboring communities. This gourmet African coffee displays many of the characteristics of Kenyan coffee; it is full-bodied with a great aroma and black-currant/chocolate finish...a great, gourmet coffee! Peaberry coffees render a concentrated flavor that offers a livelier cup, full body and distinguished aroma. Peaberry beans roast differently from the corresponding flat berry beans and are widely reputed to roast better, more evenly than flat berries because their rounder shape rolls about the roasting chamber more easily. Additionally, the alleged higher bean density may improve heat transfer in the roasting process. Normally the fruit of the coffee plant develops as two halves of a bean within a single cherry, but sometimes only one of the two seeds gets fertilized so there is nothing to flatten it, typically around 5% of all coffee beans harvested are of this form.

I like this coffee. But only the med/dark. NOT the medium like what was delivered last time.

As long as I get the medium dark, it's great. I've been buying it for years. But the medium was through Amazon. I ordered directly from RhoadsRoast recently and got med/dark. Good to go.

Hello. Thank you for buying direct with us!
Agreed, the medium/dark is one of our favorites for the Tanzanian peaberry, especially mid-day when we need a rich flavorful coffee.
Thank you for you support and welcome to RhoadsRoast Coffees :)

Tanzanian peaberry

This second region of Peaberry beans that I have bought. It is very smooth and tasty. The aroma is great especially when I grind it fresh and brew it espresso style. I get great crema which I like from my espresso machine. My wife drinks it with coconut milk and that makes it a great cup of coffee.

Good quality coffee beans - pick your roast level carefully

The freshness and quality of the beans as they arrived are beyond reproach. It was my own mistake of ordering Medium/Dark roast. The end result was a brew that (to my taste) was a bit too harsh. I drank it from a French Press and also pulled shots of Espresso. I think it could be that this roast will go better with addition of milk/cream to tone it down a bit.

Delightful, Aromatic and Tasty Coffee

I've enjoyed this coffee before in a medium roast. This is the first time I tried Tanzanian Peaberry roasted to Medium/Dark. It is PERFECT!

Very fragrant and flavorful. We drink our coffee with cream (half and half) and the color is pleasing and the flavor holds up well.

Nice job Ms. Rhoads and crew!

I received my coffee about 6 days ago but the 5 pounds tanz peaberry was not included. I thought I would wait a few days for it to show up but today is the 22cnd and it hasn’t been delivered. No big deal but it’s my favorite day to day cup. Could you check and see what happened to it?

All your coffee orders were shipped in one box and delivered via UPS ground, including the Tanzanian peaberry. Weight and delivery confirmed by UPS carrier.
Thank you, RRC
