Many of our customers @RhoadsRoast, have asked us how to craft a nice, yet simple iced coffee treat to enjoy anytime of the year. Now, making iced coffee at home doesn't have to be complicated. Whether you're looking for a quick morning pick-me-up or a refreshing afternoon drink, this simple recipe delivers smooth, delicious results every time.
What You'll Need
- Coarsely ground coffee
- Cold water
- A jar or container
- A fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth
- Ice
- Milk or cream (optional)
- Sweetener of your choice (optional)
The Cold Brew Method
Step 1: Mix Your Coffee and Water
Combine one part coarsely ground coffee with four parts cold water in your jar. For example, use one cup of coffee grounds and four cups of water. Stir well to ensure all the grounds are saturated.
Step 2: Let It Steep
Cover your jar and leave it at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours. The longer it steeps, the stronger your brew will be. Most people find 16 to 18 hours to be the sweet spot.
Step 3: Strain Your Concentrate
Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth into another container, catching the liquid and leaving the grounds behind. What you've made is a concentrated cold brew that can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Step 4: Serve Over Ice
Fill a glass with ice and pour one part cold brew concentrate with one part water, milk, or a combination of both. Adjust the ratio to your taste preference. Add sweetener if desired and enjoy.
Quick Tip for Busy Mornings
If you don't have time to wait overnight, you can make iced coffee instantly by brewing hot coffee and pouring it over ice. It won't be quite as smooth as cold brew, but it's perfect when you're in a hurry.
You will definitely love having this simple recipe on hand whenever you want to enjoy a café-quality iced coffee at home, for entertaining, and for a quick refreshing brew. Enjoy it!
